In Memoriam Dr. Frank Bonura
It is with the heaviest hearts that we share the news of the passing of Frank Bonura, MD, beloved physician who touched countless lives in more than five decades of providing healthcare to women. His energy was boundless, his knowledge endless and his dedication to his patients unparalleled. Maintaining his Smithtown medical practice for 55 years, Dr. Bonura loved treating patients, which he did well into his eighth decade.

Over the course of his career, he delivered close to 10,000 babies before shifting his focus to menopausal medicine. He was among one of the few physicians in the region to be certified by the North American Menopause Society and had served as Director of Osteoporosis and Menopausal Health at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center since 2018.

Dr. Bonura is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Lenith (Leni), as well as two sons: Frank (James Pollock) Bonura and Christopher Bonura.​

DR. BONURA
Frank Bonura, MD, is dedicated to the practice of menopausal medicine, gynecology and bone health. He is one of a few physicians in the region to be certified by the North American Menopause Society. In addition to his private practice, he is Director of Menopausal Health and Director of the Osteoporosis Program at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, New York and Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at SUNY Stony Brook. He is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD™®), a professional designation awarded by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) to clinicians who meet specified knowledge requirements for the interpretation of bone densitometry. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He has published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals on menopause and osteoporosis, and recently published a chapter in a textbook on osteoporosis.

Annual Care

It is especially important to maintain an annual schedule of check-ups in the period preceding menopause, as well as during the menopausal years. We provide annual physicals including Pap tests when indicated.
Symptom Management
Hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, irritability, painful intercourse, vaginal dryness,loss of urine with coughing,sneezing, exercize, frequent urge to urinate...we can help you find the most effective way to manage the bothersome symptoms that occur during menopause.
Diagnostic Testing

We offer a range specialized diagnostic testing focused on the special health care challenges of menopause, including urodynamic testing, DXA testing to diagnose osteoporosis, and gynecologic ultrasound.
Treatment Options
​
From lifestyle modifications to bioidentical hormone therapy, we will prescribe treatments to manage your symptoms. We conduct pelvic floor muscle training with biofeedback for urinary and vaginal problems. We also offer treatment for osteoporosis and osteopenia.
